Primo Ramdisk Pro

A computer may have the most powerful hardware available, but it will still be limited by the hard drive's writing speed. You can have a very fast Internet connection, but with a standard hard drive, your maximum download speed will be 10 Mb/s. If you want more writing speed, Primo Ramdisk Pro is the solution you are looking for. You can use it to create virtual disk partitions, using available RAM. In this way, you will have greater writing speed.

Although the software is lightweight, you will need to have enough RAM to spare. Fortunately, you can also allocate memory from the physical drive when creating a virtual disk.

Virtual drives can be created by using previously saved descriptor files, image files or they can be created from the ground up with new settings. A wizard will help you perform any of these tasks. It can be launched by clicking an option on the toolbar and it will display all the necessary options in a logical order. During the first step, you can select one of the aforementioned tasks.

If you choose to create a virtual disk with new settings, you will have to specify its drive letter, size and type before anything else. You can also tick an option to create a one-time disk which will be deactivated when rebooting the computer. After setting the disk's size, part of that number, of any size, can be allocated as physical or drive memory by clicking and dragging a slider. You can then make a series of settings for both types of memory.

The virtual drive's file system can be FAT, FAT32 or NTFS and you can set a cluster size as well. These can be selected from drop menus, during one of the wizard's stages. Before creating a disk, an option can be activated to automatically create a TEMP folder. It is also possible to create custom folders, set permissions, and specify a serial number.

After clicking the Finish button, the new drive will be created in a few seconds. The created partitions and their details are displayed on the software's interface. You will find information regarding its volume, label, file system cluster size and more. If you select a partition, Primo Ramdisk will also show how much physical and hard drive memory it uses. With the options on the toolbar, you can edit a partition's settings, remove it or reinitialize it, which will delete its contents. Its settings can be saved in a descriptor file which can be used later on to create a new drive.
